Defending community infrastructures : CHUO and OPIRG at uOttawa

Student voting ends today, but their decision will have long term impacts. That was my reason to get involved in the campaign.

Good morning,

I’m writing this just before going to uOttawa for a last push of flyering and talking with students.

Two of the questions on their ballot this week, as part of the annual general elections for undergraduate students, are on re-establishing student levies for campus/community radio station CHUO 89.1 FM and for OPIRG-GRIPO, the Ontario Public Interest Research Group at uOttawa.

I’ve been part of the Restore CHUO campaign, and I wrote a long-form piece about both after the Ottawa Citizen rejected the op-ed I sent for them to publish.

Please take a moment to read my piece (at least the op-ed part) and if you know any uOttawa students and can reach them before 6pm today, please let them know to vote (they vote online, so it is very quick and hassle-free for them to do).

Also to note: what I wrote goes beyond this particular campaign, and there is some good activist history in there.
